Frequently asked questions
Got questions you'd like answered here?
We'd love to hear from you!
Why make a video? Why not write a book?
Short answer: The convenience, emotional impact, and authenticity of video is unparalleled by written life stories. Video is far easier and quicker to complete. Plus, we’re positive that more people will view your legacy video than read an autobiography. Don’t get put on the shelf. Have your say with video.
Long answer: Our founder, an editor who helped many people write and publish during her long career, clearly loves books. But she’s also the first to admit that media which involves more of the senses is more provocative and engaging.
Writing a manuscript intimidates many people. It becomes yet another thing that doesn’t get done and the window of opportunity closes. The same can be said for reading: how many tomes get put aside to be read “when there’s time.” But look at how readily people will click to view a video or three. It’s irresistible.
Just imagine—friends and loved ones who long to hear that familiar voice and see the face they miss can do so whenever they want with video. Moving Memoirs provides your finished piece in digital form that can be stored and copied as many times as you wish.

How is your product different than what I could do on a cell phone or Zoom call with a friend?
It’s our job to make broadcast quality seem easy.
We’re a group of freelance professionals: videographers, interviewers, editors.
We use high-end equipment that outshines even the best amateur camera.
We use a proper microphone and sound equipment to capture your story
clearly. We take the time to set up proper lighting to flatter you.
A skilled interviewer knows what to ask, and when to be silent but
encouraging. This keeps you on track. We guide you through the questions you have preselected while being flexible
enough to stroll down interesting detours.Note: the interviewer will not be visible.
Good footage isn’t a finished project. Your story is actually created during
post-production editing. We take out the pauses, ummms, and coughs so
viewers will stay engaged and entertained.
Not at all! What could be more wonderful than video recording children as they grow and evolve.
You might be surprised at their precociousness when we give them the floor to explain their thoughts and feelings. (The adults just might learn something!)
Each year, they change physically and emotionally, so capture their life stages before they grow up.

What is the process?
First, we have a preliminary chat with you to learn more about your goals, and for whom the video is intended.
Next, we provide an estimate based on this information.
Memoir clients:
Once we have the go-ahead and a deposit is placed, you receive our list of over 100 curated questions to spark ideas and conjure up memories.
A recording date is booked, and you let us know what questions you'd like to answer.
A camera person and interviewer arrive at your location on chat day to set up, check lighting, and record an enjoyable visit.
The post-production editor then creates your video from the captured footage after many, many hours of digital editing. They improve sound, balance colour, add title cards and still images if specified, and many other tasks that make professional results possible.
Then, you'll preview the work and provide feedback.
The final product is completed at high resolution and provided on USB drive.
